June – busy season for „Do not hesitate“ mini-bus

2010 Jul 13, Tuesday

On 2010 June pink ribbon mini-bus continued its long-live trip in Lithuania, encouraging women to be conscious, do not forget their health matters. Mini-bus visited Molėtai, Kaišiadorys, Lazdijai, Varėna, Jurbarkas, Rokiškis, Utena, Radviliškis, Širvintai, Šilalė, Birštonas, Kretinga and Palanga. Pink Ribbon mini-bus also visited Kelmės district Lioliai nursing home and Palanga disabled people association. Professional doctors checked over 1,800 women. Women not only had priceless checks but also learned about healthy lifestyle and breast cancer prevention.

Coordinator of Pink Ribbon mini-bus Mrs. Daiva Vincevičienė said that mini-bus was very welcome, met with broad smiles, good emotions, sometimes even with gifts – home maid cheese and sweets. Women living in more remote areas told that it is a real luxury to get to the health care institution, when a bus runs to a city only a few times a day.

Women did not hide their fair to hair from a doctor of mini-bus about malignant tumour. Only when women became aware of positive diagnosis, confessed about the fair. Unfortunately, results of checks did not make all women happy. In Varėna town municipality 7 malignant cancer cases were diagnosed. There were found 21 malignant and 218 benign tumor cases during June in general.

Some women only accompanied their friends, but decided to check themselves after the presentation of Pink Ribbon bus coordinators.

The first response when benign changes are determined (in most cases – cysts) is fair: “what is it?”. “how to treat”. A cyst is a closed sac, having a distinct membrane and division on the nearby tissue and is filled with fluids. If a cyst is found, it should be monitored as frequently as recommended by you doctor.

Besides, changes in breast area – lumps – encouraged a couple of men to visit a mini-bus too.

Breast cancer awareness project “Do not delay” is proud of its friends – goodwill ambassadors that inform people about arriving mini-bus, encourages women not to miss their opportunity to hair breast awareness lectures. We were pleasantly surprised by the goodwill ambassador in Kretinga town, who donated lovely gifts –clay bells for everyone in a pink ribbon mini-bus.
